The Mission
begirt is dedicated to providing a premium, distraction-free environment for exploring the English language. We believe that a dictionary should be as beautiful as the words it defines.
The Data
Our word list is based on the OPTED (The Online Plain Text English Dictionary), which is derived from the public domain portion of Webster's Unabridged Dictionary (1913 edition). It contains over 100,000 definitions that are free for everyone to use.

This site is built using modern web standards:
